Wojtek The Bear

Wojtek The Bear

Wojtek the Bear was a Syrian brown bear adopted as a mascot and soldier by soldiers of the 22nd Artillery Supply Company of the Polish II Corps during World War II. He became a symbol of Polish resilience and bravery, famously assisting in transporting ammunition during the Battle of Monte Cassino, and continued to serve with the Polish forces until the end of the war, eventually retiring to Edinburgh Zoo.
